Earth Climate Institute

Location: NYC Center for Aerospace and Applied Mathematics on the Lower East Side, Manhattan​

Are you interested in exploring climate change through the lens of NASA’s Earth Observing System? Apply to participate in the week-long Earth Climate Institute. Discover how remote sensing works, learn how the Earth Observing System satellites collect the data, and use computer programs to investigate the meaning of the data. Participants will meet with NASA scientists to hear about their current research and learn about careers at NASA. On the final day, a simulated mission to the International Space Station and developing crisis in Earth's orbit will put everything learned throughout the week to the test.

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Students must have passed the Earth Science or Living Environment Regents Exam

Calling all young women in grades 9-12 who love technology and history! Do you want to gain hands-on JavaScript training in the Tech Commons @ New-York Historical Society? Become a Tech Scholar! During this week-long intensive, scholars will gain skills in coding and historical inquiry, design and launch their own web-based projects, and meet professional mentors across industries. At the end of the week, they'll have a custom app to present to their mentors and friends!

Virtual Worlds: Teens Code

Location: Rubin Museum of Art in Chelsea, Manhattan

Do you adore art? Are you also enthusiastic about math and technology? Spend a week immersed in the ‘sacred geometry’ of mandalas at the Rubin Museum of Art! Explore our collection and discover the geometric principles of this traditional art form. After reviewing mandala blueprints, you’ll create hand-carved, mathematically integrated block prints as well as 3D paper sculptures. Your exploration culminates in the creation of a coded animation of mandalas!
