Live Virtual Field Trips for Elementary School Classes

The Paley Center for Media and New-York Historical Society are excited to offer the following free live virtual field trips for students in kindergarten through grade 5. Register now at the links below!

Grades K-2

What is Family? (FULLY BOOKED)

There are many different family structures that exist in the world; some have a mother and father, others have two moms or two dads, some with only one parent, or sometimes there are no parents at all. During this live virtual field trip with The Paley Center for Media, students will think about and expand on their definition of what a family is by viewing and discussing short television clips that portray different kinds of family arrangements.

Gender Identity and Expression (FULLY BOOKED)

During this live virtual field trip with The Paley Center for Media, students will be introduced to the concepts of gender identity and gender expression. Students will reflect on their own identity as well as the identities of popular television characters by using terms and descriptive words that show respect for others.

LGBTQ+ Expression Throughout History (FULLY BOOKED)

How have members of the LGBTQ+ community expressed their identity throughout history? During this live virtual field trip with the New-York Historical Society, students will explore the art and political expression of prominent figures in the LGBTQ+ community including artist Keith Haring, and activists Marsha P. Johnson and Christine Jorgensen. Students will view the museum's collection of pride buttons, as well as issues of the Village Voice which led the way in covering LGBTQ+ rights, politics, and culture.
