Urban Naturalists: Introduction to Animal Care and Urban Farming

Location: Genovesi Environmental Study Center in Bergen Beach, Brooklyn

Dates: Monday, July 8 - Thursday, August 8, 2024
Times: Mondays through Wednesdays 9:00am-3:00pm; Thursdays 9:00am-12:00pm

Calling all high school students interested in animal care and welfare, planting, harvesting, and learning how food grows. Spend your summer in the sun (sometimes rain) at the Environmental Study Center (ESC) caring for animals and tending to the urban farm. Take your love of nature to the next level developing practical animal handling skills with an array of animals; working in the gardens and on the farm; harvesting honey from the apiary; cooking farm to table; cultivating compost; dabbling in hydroponics; and so much more, including exploring exciting career paths with guest speakers every Thursday! Participate behind the scenes in the day-to-day, hands-on activities that make ESC’s flora and fauna thrive. Participants receive a daily MetroCard for travel to/from ESC.

Interviews: If you are selected as a finalist, you will be invited for an interview at ESC before or after school after your application has been submitted and reviewed by our committee. Interviews are by invite ONLY for selected finalists.
