Succeed this Summer with STEM!

Explore the summer programs for students entering grade 6 in September. 

  • 1-week camps take place Monday through Friday, from 9:00am to 3:00pm each day.
  • 5-week STEM Academy takes place Monday through Thursday from 8:30am to 2:30pm each day.

Want to spend your summer doing creative and fun STEAM activities? Tap into your teamwork skills as you work on design challenges and engage in hands-on learning to solve real-world problems. During the 5-week STEM Academy, students will develop innovative, creative, problem-solving skills using Camp Invention, littleBits, Engineering is Elementary, Dash and Dot coding. Students will also use Minecraft, participate in PE and NaliniKids, and take part in at least two field trips to local cultural institutions. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Some students will be eligible for busing, while all others will receive a daily MetroCard for travel to and from their STEM Academy site.

Design Lab: Health Edition!

Location: Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum on the Upper East Side, Manhattan

Dates: Monday, August 10-Friday, August 14, 2020

From the medicine in your bathroom cabinet to the equipment at your doctor’s office, health affects everyone: your neighbors, your classmates, and even you! Join Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum to discover how designers tackle the real-world challenges in healthcare. Led by experts in the field, students will engage in hands-on activities that foster critical thinking, creative problem-solving and collaboration. By using design thinking—brainstorming, empathy building, and prototyping— students will design products and services to build a healthier world!

Homestead Heroes: Summer Farming Intensive

Location: Queens County Farm Museum in Glen Oaks, Queens

Dates: Monday, July 27-Friday, July 31, 2020

Do you have what it takes to be a farmer? Are you ready to design your own homestead? Join us at the Queens Farm to find out! Learn about food systems, crop diversity, season extension, and sustainable practices happening at the farm. Each day, campers will do actual work in the growing fields and explore a different aspect of farming: crops, animals, compost, cooking (and tasting) a meal in our historic farmhouse. The program culminates with a special family day where each camper can showcase their personal farm project!

Saving Sea Life

Location: NY Aquarium in Coney Island, Brooklyn

Dates: Monday, July 6-Friday, July 10, 2020 

Scientists and communities are saving our oceans, now let's find out how! Join us this summer to investigate the successful conservation efforts towards saving marine life in our oceans. Through hands-on investigations, debates, research activities, and animal encounters, learn how we can adopt these successes towards other endangered marine species.

Aerospace Adventures

Location: NYC Center for Aerospace and Applied Mathematics

Do you want to be an astronaut? Come join us for a week of astronaut training! Explore flight simulators in our NASA Aerospace Education Lab, construct and launch rockets, and build and program Mars rovers with EV3 LEGO robots. During this action-packed week, campers will simulate astronaut training and learn about the history of space exploration to prepare for their ultimate mission: a simulated space adventure.

Expedition Staten Island Zoo: Exploring Animal Behavior

Location: Staten Island Zoo in West Brighton, Staten Island

Dates: Monday, July 27-Friday, July 31, 2020

Join the Staten Island Zoo this summer to discover the importance of conservation work! Meet animal conservation and zoology professionals and enjoy daily activities like “behind the scenes” tours, special animal presentations, and a trip to Clove Lakes Park. Conduct your very own field research using the resources of the Zoo, including program animals, exhibits, biofacts, and hands-on classroom activities. Your research will culminate in a group presentation given to peers, families, and Zoo staff on the last day of camp.

Maker Camp: Life in Motion

Location: MakerSpace NYC in Sunset Park, Brooklyn

Dates: Monday, July 6 -Friday, July 10, 2020

Come tinker with us at MakerSpace NYC Futureworks Makerspace! Learn about the mechanics of motion in your world. Gain skills with hand tools, power drills and drivers, and soldering irons, under close supervision by experienced makers in order to create projects like chain reaction machines, large trebuchets, automata, and steam engines. On the final day of camp, families are invited to join us to see projects up close.

Wildlife Advocates

Location: Bronx Zoo in Bronx Park, Bronx

Dates: Monday, July 27-Friday, July 31, 2020

You want to save wildlife, how can you inspire other people to help? Campers will explore the ways scientists encourage and educate people about conservation. Through animal demonstrations, wildlife conservation campaigns, and media and art, your camper will learn how to advocate for wildlife and wild places. Discover the power you have to make a difference!

Wildlife Makers Camp

Location: Queens Zoo in Corona, Queens

Dates: Monday, July 13-Friday, July 17, 2020

Do you love to tinker, design, and create? Join us to learn about wildlife and conservation in the Zoo using a variety of resources! Campers will use everyday materials in exciting ways through open-ended exploration and experimentation to find creative solutions to some real-world concerns about the animals in our care.
