STEM Matters NYC Programs: Entering Grade 6

Shine this summer with STEM!

Explore the one-week camps for students entering grade 6 in September. All these camps take place Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm each day.

Aerospace Academy

Location: NYC Center for Aerospace and Applied Mathematics, Lower East Side, Manhattan

Choose one session:

  • Session A: Monday, July 10 - Friday, July 14, 2023 or
  • Session B: Monday, July 17 - Friday, July 21, 2023 or
  • Session C: Monday, July 24 - Friday, July 28, 2023

Do you want to be an astronaut? Come join us for a week of astronaut training! Explore flight simulators in our NASA Aerospace Education Lab, construct and launch rockets, design in our 3D printing lab, and build and program Mars rovers with EV3 LEGO robots. During this action-packed week, campers will simulate astronaut training and learn about the history of space exploration to prepare for their ultimate mission: a simulated space adventure.

Conservation Collaborators

Location: Bronx Zoo in Bronx Park, Bronx

Dates: Monday, July 31 - Friday, August 4, 2023

When it comes to saving wildlife, creating solutions isn’t easy! This summer, take on the challenge using the perspective of scientists, local community members, and governments. Through up-close animal encounters, exhibit visits, and science exploration, learn the importance of collaboration in making environmental solutions come to life!

Saving Sea Life

Location: NY Aquarium in Coney Island, Brooklyn

Dates: Monday, July 17 - Friday, July 21, 2023

Want to know what it takes to protect our ocean? Join the NY Aquarium to investigate the successful conservation efforts towards saving marine life in our ocean. Through hands-on investigations, debates, research activities, and animal encounters, learn how we can adopt these successes towards other endangered marine species.

Animal Transformers

Location: Queens Zoo in Corona, Queens

Dates: Monday, July 24 - Friday, July 28, 2023

From paramecium to pumas, spend a week at the Queens Zoo exploring the evolutionary tree of life and learning how animals diversified from single-celled organisms to become what they are today! Using the tools of a scientist, take a closer look at animal species to see how they have adapted to environmental influences like climate change, animal interactions, and human impacts.

Discovery Camp

Location: Staten Island Museum in Randall Manor, Staten Island

Dates: Monday, July 31 - Friday, August 4, 2022

Calling all science enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers! Discover the wonders of our natural world while hiking local trails, studying pond life and enjoying interactive workshops with our community partners, including Urban Park Rangers and Freshkills Park Alliance. Engage in team building activities, games and creative design projects through hands-on field experiences. Whether you are harnessing the sun to cook in a solar oven, exploring the importance of sustainable architecture or mapping local biodiversity, each challenge will channel your creative energy and spark your imagination!
