Entering Grades 10 through 12 in September?

Check out these exciting one- and two-week summer courses! Unless noted below, courses take place Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm each day.

Urban Farm Stewardship Lab

Location: Battery Conservancy, in the Financial District, Manhattan

Dates: Monday, July 5 - Friday, July 16, 2021 from 9:00am-2:00pm

Calling all future farmers! Do you love being outside and want to learn how to grow food and monitor the health of ecosystems? The Battery Urban Farm, located at the Battery, a historic waterfront park in the heart of downtown Manhattan, grows food for donation to local food relief organizations. Join us for two weeks outside in the sun (or rain) to plant, maintain, and harvest vegetable and forest farms. Gain hands-on experience in environmental management and park conservation, working with us to monitor the ecological health of terrestrial and marine ecosystems.

Teen Makers: 3D Industrial Design and Manufacturing

Location: MakerSpace NYC at the Brooklyn Army Terminal, Sunset Park, Brooklyn

Dates: Monday, July 12 - Friday, July 23, 2021

What will you MAKE this summer? MakerSpace NYC is looking for students excited about industrial design, fabrication, and advanced manufacturing! Spend two weeks in our 15,000 sq ft state-of-the-art space where you'll learn about design and advanced manufacturing tools. Teen Makers will design and create a project from start to finish using Solidworks CAD software, our 3D printers, and laser cutters. They will observe other CNC machines in action including our waterjet cutter. Don't miss this amazing opportunity to build a portfolio and learn about pathways to careers in industrial design and advanced manufacturing!

Tech Scholars

 Location: New-York Historical Society on the Upper West Side, Manhattan

Tech Scholars: Website Design

Dates: Monday, July 12 - Friday, July 16, 2021

Calling all young women who love technology and history! Do you want to gain hands-on HTML and CSS training? Join us in the Tech Commons @ New-York Historical Society and become a Tech Scholar! As a Tech Scholar, you will gain skills in coding and historical inquiry, design and launch your own web-based projects, and meet professional mentors from across industries. At the end of the week, you'll have a custom website to present to mentors and friends.

Tech Scholars: Video Game Design

Dates: Monday, July 26 - Friday, July 30, 2021

Calling all young women who love technology and history! Do you want to gain hands-on JavaScript training? Join us in the Tech Commons @ New-York Historical Society and become a Tech Scholar! As a Tech Scholar, you will gain skills in coding and historical inquiry, design your own video game, and meet professional mentors from across industries. At the end of the week, you'll have a custom video game to play with friends and present to mentors.

Green-Wood Teen Ambassador Training Corps

Location: Green-Wood Cemetery in Greenwood Heights, Brooklyn

Dates: Monday, July 12 - Friday, July 16, 2021

From the tops of Green-Wood's trees, to six feet underground, explore all aspects of Green-Wood Cemetery and train to become a Teen Ambassador! The Teen Ambassador Training Corps will get a behind-the-scenes look at Green-Wood's natural environment, history, art and architecture, and cemetery operations. Upon completion of the program, Training Corps members will become Teen Ambassadors, primed and committed to volunteer year-round to help the public explore and enjoy Green-Wood in a safe, socially-distanced way.

Bright Matter: Intro to Neon Bending

Dates: Monday, August 2 - Friday, August 13, 2021

Illuminate your summer with a neon masterpiece of your own design! Did you know all neon signs are handmade from glass tubing? Beginning with an exploration of how noble gases interact with electrical currents to produce light, join us to investigate the technical and aesthetic aspects of this unique art form. Working with various torches to weld and bend glass tubes, spend time planning, creating, and lighting your very own glowing sign!

Layered Stories: Intro to Imagery and Stained Glass

Dates: Monday, August 16 - Friday, August 27, 2021

Get inspired by glass this summer and learn to create a unique 3D image by layering glass! From graphic patterns to layered landscapes, there is a whole world of imagery you can use to tell your story through glass. Join us in the studio to experiment, learn to cut, paint, and shape colorful sheet glass, and explore color mixing, temperature effects, and fusing pieces together in the kiln.
